INJURIES IN THE RUNNING ATHLETE
A Two-Part Series on the Diagnosis, Cause, Prevention and Rehabilitatin of Running Injuries

Who is this course for?
Dr. Taunton will present two separate lectures:
Lecture 1 will take place on Friday evening, and is open to Coaches, Athletes, Avid Runners, and Health Professionals - PT's, DC's, MD's, etc

Lecture 2 will take place on Saturday and is open to Health Professionals only - PT's, DC's, MD's, ATC's, Kinesiologists. Lecture 1 will be introductory to Saturday's Lecture

*exceptions will be made upon request on an individual basis

SPEAKER BIO

Dr. Jack Taunton
MSc, MD, Dipl Sport Medicine (CASM)

Dr. Taunton is known and respected as one of the top Sports Medicine Doctors in North America. Dr. Taunton's experience is vast, with several highlights including: Chief Medical Officer of the Sydney 2000 Olympics and two Pan Am and World Student Games; Medical Officer of the '88 Winter Olympics, three Commonwealth Games, and four World Championships; Team Physician for the Vancouver Grizzlies and Vancouver Canucks, and Team Physician for the Women's National Field Hockey Team (24 years). Adding to his Professional experience, Dr. Taunton was a nationally ranked marathoner, completing over 61 marathons. In 1999, Dr. Taunton was the recipient of the Canadian Sport Medicine and Science Award. He is the Director of the Allan McGavin Sports Medicine Centre and Division of Sports at the University of British Columbia, where he maintains his Clinical Practice.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

• Introduction to advanced strategies in injury prevention and performance enhancement
• Develop an understanding of running injuries including: etiology, treatment and prevention
• Discuss current concepts in the etiology and treatment of patellar tendinopathy
